Newly Acquired Vehicle
In addition to providing identification and proof of Fentress County residency, a certificate of title properly reassigned to reflect completed chain of ownership is required.
Any liens noted on front of title must be released.
Depending on your specific situation, additional documentation may be required to register the vehicle.
Vehicle New to State
Once you have established residency in Fentress County you are required to apply for Tennessee title and registration.
You will be asked to surrender your out of state title to our office.
If there is a lien on your vehicle, bring a copy of your title or a copy of your most recent registration accompanied by the correct name and mailing address of your lien holder. You must be the owner of the vehicle or provide a Power of Attorney form completed by the owner.
You will be asked for your driver license or government issued ID.
The fees for titling and registering are as follows:
- Private passenger license plate and title – $73.00
- Motorcycle license plate and title – $53.50
Proof of residency is required.

Leased Vehicles
Leased Vehicle New to State:
If you are leasing the vehicle you will be required to furnish the out of state registration in the leasing company name, a notarized Power of Attorney from the leasing company, an Owner’s Authorization to Lessee, a copy of the lease agreement, and a valid Tennessee sales tax number for the lease company.
