FAQ

A: Emergency Medical Services

A: Fentress County EMS responded to approximately 5082 calls in 2023 and approximately 5039 in 2024.

A: Fentress County has 7 ambulance, but try to staff 4 ALS(Advanced Life Support) ambulances during the day, and 3 ALS ambulances during the night. They do alternating 12 hour shifts, so the day crews are available for call at night, and the night crews are available for call during the day. So, if needed, there could be 7 staffed, ALS ambulances.

A: The stations are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 52 weeks of the year and can be contacted for emergencies by calling 911. If you need assistance with a billing issue or have other questions, please call our billing office Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The number to our billing office is 931-879-8147. You may also contact our third-party billing company EMS-MC 1-800-814-5339 with any questions in regards to your bill.

A: First of all, we want you to get well and we want to provide you with the highest level of pre-hospital emergency care as possible. Once you have been cared for, we will bill your insurance company for you. However, if insurance does not pay than you may receive a bill from our billing company EMS-MC.

A: We have protocols in place for the attending paramedic to transport to the closest appropriate facility; however, the patient or patient’s family has a right to request another facility. When you request to be transported to a different hospital, you may be asked to sign a form that explains that you understand that your insurance may not cover any or all charges. EMS crews should explain to you the risk and benefits of going to a different facility to allow you to make an informed decision. However, understand there may be times when the paramedic decides that the best option is to go to a facility that is closer or may be better suited for your condition based on the criticalness of the patient.

A: Yes. We will examine a patient and talk with them, but he or she has the right to refuse treatment, transport, or both at any time. There are some exceptions based on mental competency and minors.
