To the Voters of Fentress County, Tennessee, notice is hereby given that a Presidential Preference Primary Election and Fentress County Republican Primary Election will be held in all voting precincts in Fentress County, Tennessee on TUESDAY, MARCH 3, 2020, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Central Time.

Candidates for delegates to the Republican National Convention must file nominating petitions with the Tennessee Secretary of State by Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 12:00 Noon Central Time. Candidates for Assessor of Property must file their nominating petitions in the County Election Commission Office by the Qualifying Deadline of Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 12:00 Noon Central Time.All candidates, including Independent Candidates, who desire to run for Assessor of Property, on the August 6, 2020 County General Ballot have the same qualifying deadline.  Petitions will be issued beginning October 14, 2019.

Written withdrawal requests for qualified candidates must be signed by the candidate and filed with the County Election Commission Office by the withdrawal deadline of Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 12:00 Noon Central Time.

Photo ID Requirements – On Election Day and during the Early Voting period, a federal or Tennessee state issued photo ID is required to vote, unless an exception applies.  College student IDs will not be accepted.  To learn more about the new law and its exceptions, please call the Fentress County Election Commission at 931-879-7162 or visit www.GoVoteTN.com.

Early Voting – The early voting period is February 12, 2020 – February 25, 2020 (closed Monday, February 17, 2020 in observance of Presidents’ Day)at the Fentress County Election Commission Office 111 North Norris Street Jamestown, TN 38556.

Monday – Friday – 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Time

Saturday – 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon Central Time

Voter Registration Deadline – For the upcoming March 3, 2020 election, the last day to register in person will be Monday, February 3, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. Central Time. By-mail registration applications must be postmarked by Monday, February 3, 2020.

Change of Name or Address Requests – Change of name or address requests will be processed for this election if received in the Fentress County Election Commission office by Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. Central Time.

Absentee Voting by Mail – To vote an absentee ballot by-mail, the voter must make the request in writing and include their name (as registered), social security number, date of birth, residence address (911 address), mailing address (if different from residence address), the election they wish to vote in, the reason they are requesting to vote an absentee ballot and their signature.  The written request must be received no later than Tuesday, February 25, 2020. Mail requests to the Fentress County Election Commission, P.O. Box 1027 Jamestown, TN 38556.  Requests may also be faxed to 931-879-2579 or emailed to fentress.commission@tn.gov with an attached document which includes the voter’s scanned signature. If the request does not contain the required information, the election commission shall send the voter an application for an absentee ballot in order to obtain the needed information.  (*Note – If the voter registered by mail, they must vote in person the first election they vote in after registering.)

Notice of Office Location, Telephone Numbers and Offices Hours – Pursuant to T.C.A. 2-2-114 (a) notice is hereby given that the Fentress County Election Commission office located at 111 North Norris Street Jamestown, TN 38556, telephone number 931-879-7162, is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday, except holidays.

Notice to Elderly Voters or Voters with Disabilities – Pursuant to T.C.A 2-3-109 (e) notice is hereby given that voters with disabilities or elderly voters assigned to vote in precincts where the polling place is inaccessible may vote at the Fentress County Election Commission Office on Election Day OR vote by absentee ballot OR vote early by personal appearance during the dates specified for early voting at the Fentress County Election Commission Office.

If the voter chooses to vote at the Fentress County Election Commission Office on Election Day, they must complete an affidavit at the county election commission office no later than February 22, 2020 stating that their designated voting location does not comply with the provisions of Public Law 98-435 of the 98th Congress.
